Pune Aam Aadmi Party | AAP holds protest to oppose redevelopment of iconic Balgandharva Rangmandir

Pune : NpNews24 Online  – The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has vehemently opposed the redevelopment plan of Pune’s iconic Balgandharva Rangmandir. The party had organised a protest in front of the auditorium on May 9. The party has posed some questions to the civic administration.

The party wants to know whether the redevelopment plan has been prepared for the benefit of contractors. The party says the plan should have been made public and a discussion should have taken place on the issue. The party wants to know who has decided to carry out redevelopment particularly after the appointment of an administrator of the civic body.

When Murlidhar Mohol was the chairman of the standing committee, he had proposed a plan of redevelopment of Balgandharva Rangmandir. However, the plan was met with stiff resistance from Puneites and the artistes’ community and it was scrapped.

The Administrator of the PMC, Vikram Kumar, has decided to redevelop the iconic auditorium without taking the people and artistes into confidence. The party has demanded that Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar, Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Vikram Kumar and ex-mayor Murlidhar Mohol should explain to the people as to why the decision of redevelopment has been taken.

The new plan envisages provision of parking and skywalk for metro train commuters. The state organiser and working president of the party in Pune, Vijay Kumbhar, has demanded that the civic administration should reveal the exact reason for demolition and redevelopment of Balgandharva Rangmandir and the people and artistes should be apprised of every move on the issue.
