Woman Senior PI in Mumbai Police demands money from accused, booked for extortion

Pune : NpNews24 OnlinePolice Inspector Shalini Sharma | An offence of extortion and issuing of threats has been registered against Senior PI Shalini Sharma at the Chembur police station. Sr PI Sharma, a suspended police officer and one more person have been booked for allegedly demanding a ransom from an accused arrested by the Chembur police.

 

Sr PI Shalini Sharma was attached to the Chembur police station a year ago. The other accused have been identified as Anil alias Bhanudas Jadhav (suspended cop) and his accomplice Raju Sontakke. Jadhav reportedly demanded Rs 50 lakh to secure bail for the arrested accused. Jadhav also threatened him that if he failed to pay the money, he would be framed in other offences. The accused’s sister Shahida Qureshi lodged a complaint at the police station. She also complained to senior police officers.

 

The complainant also alleged that Raju Sontakke called her brother on WahtsApp and demanded Rs 2 lakh. The Crime Branch verified the complaint and registered the offence at the Chembur police station.

 

The Crime Branch is investigating the matter.

 

PI Shalini Sharma was honoured with the President’s Medal for distinguished service. She also had a tiff with SP MLA Abu Azmi over the Shaheen Bagh agitation when she was posted at the Nagpada police station.

 

Later, she was transferred to the Chembur police station. PI Sharma has now been booked for extortion.
