PM Modi Pays Tributes to Rajiv Gandhi on His Death Anniversary, #ThankYouRajivGandhi Campaign by Congress

New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi today paid tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary. Rajiv Gandhi was killed by a suicide bomber on 21 May 1991 during an election meeting at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu. Modi tweeted, “On his death anniversary, tributes to former PM Shri Rajiv Gandhi.”

 

 

The Congress is running a #ThankYouRajivGandhi campaign on social media on the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. The Congress wrote in a tweet, “Rajiv Gandhi – the man who felt the pulse of a young India & steered us towards a brighter future. The man who understood the needs of the young & old and was loved by one and all.”

 

 

 

 

Significantly, Rajiv Gandhi had arrived in Sriperumbudur on 21 May 1991 to address an election rally. During this time a woman came to him with a flower necklace and after getting close, she blew herself with a suicide bomb. According to reports, angry with sending peace forces to Sri Lanka, Tamil rebels launched a suicide attack on Rajiv in Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu.
