Pimpri: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police are neglecting hit-and-run incidents in the twin towns. A similar incident took place within the jurisdiction of the MIDC Bhosari Police Station involving a son of a policeman. However, the culprit was not booked even 24 hours after the accident.

A video clip of the incident went viral on social media. Then the police woke up and arrested the accused. It is alleged that the police delayed action as the accused, Vinay Vilas Naikre, is the son of a policeman.

Vinay’s father Vilas is a policeman in the Pimpri-Chinchwad police force. He is currently posted at the MIDC Bhosari Police Station. Now, Vinay is behind the bars at the same police station. Vinay was recklessly driving his car on Moshi road. The complainant’s wife was crossing the road when he hit her.

Action only after the video goes viral

The car was driven so speedily that the victim was tossed in the air and thrown eight feet away. Vinay did not stop after the accident. He escaped. The woman is seriously injured. The video clip of the incident went viral after 24 hours. The police registered a case and took action only after that. It is said that had the clip not been circulated, the cop’s son would not have been arrested. He was being shielded because he is a son of a policeman. His father is posted at the same police station. Hence, they did not take action immediately.

Reason behind not registering a case

Doubts were being raised about the role of the police in this case as a case was registered even after 24 hours of the accident. When queried about this, the police said that Vinay later went back to the accident spot and helped the victim get admitted to hospital. Then the police recorded the statement of the complainant and the victim, who told them that they did not want to lodge a complaint. Therefore, a case was not registered, claimed the police.
