Pimpri: Lady traffic cop in ‘contactless bribe video’ identified as Swati Sonnar; suspended from service

Pimpri: The lady traffic cop who was seen in a viral video taking a bribe from a woman at Shagun Chowk in Pimpri has been suspended.

The traffic police constable has been identified as Swati Sonnar. She was attached with the Pimpri division of Traffic Branch. Sonnar and her fellow traffic police personnel were on duty at Sai Chowk in Pimpri on Tuesday (December 15) when the incident happened.

Meanwhile, two young women arrived on a two-wheeler. The lady cop warned the two women of strict action for violating traffic rules. To avoid the prosecution, they mutually decided on a bribe amount and the lady cop accepted the money.

The viral video shows the young woman on the bike sliding money in the pocket of Sonnar. The action began after the video went viral on social media platforms and reached senior police officers. Assistant Commissioner of Police Shrikant Disale submitted the inquiry report to the Deputy Commissioner of Police Sudhir Hiremath of Pimpri-Chinchwad police.
