Gutkha worth Rs 1 crore seized from tempo near Chakan
Pune : NpNews24 Online – Pimpri Chinchwad Police | The Chakan police have seized gutkha worth Rs 1 crore from a tempo near Vaki village on the Pune-Nashik highway. The driver of the tempo, Ganesh Vitthal Bhadale (32), a resident of Khed taluka, Pune district has been arrested. (Pimpri Chinchwad Police)
Police Naik Bhairoba Yadav has lodged a complaint at the Chakan police station. PSI Nilesh Chavan had been tipped off by a journalist that gutkha was being transported in a tempo. Accordingly, the police had laid a trap on the speed breaker near Rohkal Phata in Vaki area on the Pune-Nashik highway.
As per the information received by the police, a white tempo arrived at 7 am on Sunday. When the driver reduced the speed of the vehicle on the speed breaker, the police told him to take his vehicle aside. When the goods in the tempo were checked, they found sacks containing sachets of RMD paan masala and gutkha having M scented tobacco totally worth Rs 91 lakh 12 thousand. The police seized the tempo and the goods totally worth Rs 1 crore 1 lakh 20,000.
When tempo driver Ganesh Bhadale was questioned, he told them that the goods belonged to an individual named Suraj.
The police have filed a case against Suraj.
