On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, unique gift by students

On the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti, the students of the New English School of Deccan Education Society paid a special tribute to the Father of Nation by making a cloth on Charkha (spinning wheel, which is used of making the clothes from raw material). 30 students of this school took this unique initiative.

Five meters of clothes were made in the Sewagram of Wardha. As per the information was given by the Principal Nagesh Mane -‘Out of this five-meter clothes, 2.5 meters to President Ramnath Kovind and 2.5 meters of clothes will send to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as a special gift by students.’

Umesh Ambegaonkar the presidents of Khadi Gram Udyog Mandal, Kankavali, Shreekrishna Kanetkar a life member of Deccan Education Society (DES), the chairmen of school committee Sunil Bhandage, Vinay Acharya were presented, for appreciating the students’ work.

The Shreekrishna Kanetkar of DES said that “Charkha is a symbol Swadeshi. Use of Charkha for making clothes is a very good initiative, which will help builds the feeling of Swadeshi and making them self – sufficient.”

“Students should learn at least how to make hanky with the help of Charkha So that they can enjoy the feeling of creating something new by themselves,” expressed by Umesh Ambegaonkar.

The New English School had brought three Charkha under the guidance of trainer of Sewagram, Madhav Sahasrabuddhe before two years ago.

Swati Jajjal, Vikas Panther, Anand Patil, Priyanka Kalcheem, all these teachers provide a training of handling the Charkha for these students. 30 students have been trained since last two years. This training is given from 10:30 to 11:30 in the morning means at the time of before starting the school.

Importance of Charkha:

Charkha is a spinning wheel, which was a symbol of independent movement of India. Gandhi had appealed people for using the Khadi clothes (which was made on Charkha), instead of using clothing made in factories of Britishers. So it has very place in the independent movement of the country. It also represents the self-sufficiency and  Swadeshi.

The Charkha was re-invented by Mahatmas Gandhi when he was in Yerwada jail. So it has special relevance with Pune city. So this gift created by students of New English School has special importance. Now, the question remains that, when PM and President of our country will appear in this cloths.
