Offering an apology will be contempt of my conscience : Prashant Bhushan to SC

New Delhi: Senior advocate Prashant Bhushan refused to apologize to the Supreme Court in the court contempt case. He said he is right in his view and stood by it. Advocate Prashant Bhushan was found guilty of contempt for his tweet against the judges. He has filed his reply in the Supreme Court. Prashant Bhushan said in his statement presented before the court on Monday, ‘I believe that the Supreme Court is the last pillar of hope for the protection of fundamental rights. The tweets represent their faith and withdrawing their statements would be an insincere apology’.

Prashant Bhushanh said, ‘My statement was in good faith. If I withdraw my statement before this court and offer an honest apology, then it would be contempt for my conscience in which I hold supreme faith’.

The Supreme Court  on Thursday asked social activist and senior advocate Prashant Bhushan to reconsider his statement and tweet. The court asked to take 2 to 3 days, granting him the extension till 24 August.

The Supreme Court dismissed the plea of Prashant Bhushan in which he had appealed to send the case to another bench. A bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra told senior advocate Dushyant Dave, appearing for the court on behalf of Prashant Bhushan, that no action is taken against him until a decision is reached on a petition. This means that the punishment given to them will not be applicable.
