“No” says Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg on the question stepping down

NP NEWS 24 ONLINE – Despite calls for his resignation, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg is not planning to step down.

In an interview on Tuesday, Zuckerberg pushed back against the criticism his social media platform has received in recent years and said he believes Facebook can be a force for the greater good.

When asked if he was stepping down. Zuckerberg paused. “That’s not the plan,” he responded testily. “I’m not going to be doing this forever, but currently I’m not thinking that makes sense.”

“A lot of the criticism around the biggest issues has been fair, but I do think that if we are going to be real, there is this bigger picture as well, which is that we have a different world view than some of the folks who are covering us,” Zuckerberg told.

“There are big issues, and I’m not trying to say that there aren’t,” he said. “But I do think that sometimes, you can get the flavor from some of the coverage that’s all there is, and I don’t think that that’s right either.”

“It is not clear to me at all that the report is right,” he added. “A lot of the things that were in that report, we talked to the reporters ahead of time and told them that from everything that we’d seen, that wasn’t true and they chose to print it anyway.”

Facebook’s woes began with the revelation that Russian agents used the platform to interfere with the 2016 presidential election, by spreading misinformation and propaganda. Since then, the company has had to deal with one scandal after another, including a massive user data and privacy breach which impacted tens of millions of users.
