Nine bookies accepting big bets on IPL matches land in Pune Police Crime Branch net: Nine bookies held; Computer, three laptops, 18 mobiles seized

NpNews24 Online  – Pune Crime News | A team of Pune Police Crime Branch carried out a raid on bookies accepting bets on IPL matches on Saturday at 9 pm. Nine people have been arrested and a computer, three laptops, 18 mobile handsets and cash of ₹92,000 i.e. totally worth ₹5.12 lakh have been seized. (Pune Crime News)

 

This has created a flutter in betting circles and nine people have been arrested. The action was taken by a team of police officials including ACP Sunil Pawar and Sr PI Shrihari Bahirat of Unit 3 and others under the guidance of CP Retesh Kumaarr, Joint CP Sandeep Karnik, Addl CP Ramnath Pokale and DCP Amol Zende.

 

The accused have been identified as Hemant Ravindra Gandhi (38), a resident of Rasta Peth, Ajinkya Shamrao Kolekar (30), a resident of Nana Peth, Sachin Satish Ghodke (35), a resident of Rasta Peth, Yashpratap Manojkumr Singh (22), a resident of Uttar Pradesh, Dharmendra Sangamlal Yadav (25), a resident of Uttar Pradesh, Regal Chandrashekhar Patel (22), a resient of Uttar Pradesh, Anurag Fulchand Yadav (32), a resident of Uttar Pradesh, Indajit Gopal Mujumdar (30), a resident of West Bengal and Satish Santosh Yadav (18), a resident of Uttar Pradesh.

 

ACP Sunil Pawar and Sr PI Srihari Bahirat had got information that bets were being accepted on a large scale on the match between Mumbai Indians versus Chennai Super Kings at Brahma Aangan, B2, Flat number 6 in Kondhwa.

 

The information was verified. Under the guidance of seniors, a raid was conducted by ACP Sunil Pawar, Sr Pi Srihari Bahirat, PSI Pawar, PSI Patil and other staff on Saturday at 9 pm in Kondhwa. It was found that nine people were accepting bets on IPL matches.

Some of the accused were creating IDs on LOTUS 365 link and giving it to customers. Accused Hemant Gandhi was accepting bets on a live app and ₹92,000 was found in his trouser pocket. A laptop and 5 mobile handsets were found on him.

 

Others were creating LOTUS ID and giving it to customers. They had two laptops, a PC and 13 mobile handsets. The police seized a computer, three laptops and 18 mobiles worth ₹5.12 lakh. An FIR has been registered against the accused at the Kondhwa police station under sections 4 and 5 of the Bombay Prevention of Gambling Act. PSI Patil is probing the case.

 

Meanwhile, the raid carried out by the Crime Branch of Pune Police has created a flutter in the betting community. There are murmurs that large scale betting is taking place on IPL matches. It is being said that some people have ‘disappeared’ and are indulging in ‘big’ things. It is also seen that some people are consuming alcohol in bars and placing bets on IPL matches. Various apps are being used to accept and place bets.

More revelations are likely to be made about the betting racket of IPL matches.
