Nawab Malik attacks BJP over the renaming of Ahmedabad stadium

Mumbai: The BJP is “crossing all limits” and renaming even hospitals and stadiums now, Maharashtra minister and NCP’s national spokesperson Nawab Malik said on Wednesday.

He also claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had not commented on the issue yet, which suggested that the renaming of the stadium in Ahmedabad had his approval.

On Wednesday, the refurbished Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad was inaugurated and renamed after PM Narendra Modi.

Malik said, “It was a matter of joy that the world’s largest stadium has been built in our country. But the sad thing is that the BJP government has started a tradition of renaming things named after Bharat Ratna awardees.”

“The BJP is crossing all limits in its bid for changing names. They renamed cities earlier. But now hospitals, stadium named after Bharat Ratnas are also being renamed,” Malik added.

Amid the controversy over the renaming, the Union government stated that the sports complex in Ahmedabad, as a whole, remains in the name of the country’s first home minister.
