Such Peacock is claimed to of two year old and was found at the Electronic market area at the terrace of J K Market building in Tapkir Gali of Budhwar Peth, Pune on Monday around 9 am. The wounded peacock was immediately rushed to Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park by the local resident.

The incident took place in the middle of Pune city. There is a chaos created in social media as the people are pondering questions, after a picture of a person carrying the peacock went viral on social media. On this issue, Balasaheb Dhamale Mahanaale, the owner of the Electronics shop said that after the peacock been found wounded at the terrace of their shop, it was brought inside the shop for its safety. Lot many incidents of Peacocks been smuggled and poached have come up earlier. Also, feathers have been seized by the police many a times and peacocks have been rescued. But to the unknown, according to the law, Peacock being the National Bird is been protected species under schedule I of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, hence hunting or poaching is a punishable offence under section 9, 39, 40(2), 49B of Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 and Under Section 11 of Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act, 1960.

There may be a possibility, that the population of our national bird, peacock is in danger. It may somehow be linked to the smugglers.

Being a citizen of India, it is our prime duty to protect our national bird. If it is a case of smuggling, then someone may have tried to harm the peacock for his/her own selfish benefits. There may also have been a possibility that the peacock might have been planned to use for selling the feathers and making money out of it. Or is there a connection with the wounded peacock found in Budhwar Peth which is also a red-light area.
