NANDURBAR : NpNews24 Online – Nandurbar Police | The Akshata Samiti of Nandurbar district police on Thursday had prevented a child marriage from taking place in Valamba Kathi village of Akkalkuva taluka under the guidance of SP PR Patil. On Friday, another child marriage going to be held at Bal Amrai in Nandurbar taluka was stopped by Nandurbar police. The police have stopped two child marriages in two days.
A small felicitation programme of the team that stopped the child marriage in Akkalkuva taluka on Thursday was going on in the hall at SP’s office. The SP got information from Child Line organisation in Nandurbar that the marriage of a minor girl was going to take place at Bal Amrai village in Nandurbar taluka on Friday.
Considering the seriousness of the situation, PR Patil asked the Akshata Samiti to stop the child marriage and counsel the girl’s parents. The chief of the Akshata Samiti, API Naina Deore and her team rushed to Bal Amrai village.
The Askhata Samiti team got the information about the girl from the members of the police station level Akshata Samiti and came to know that an engagement ceremony was going to take place. The Akshata Cell went to the sport and verified the age of the boy and girl through their Aadhaar cards. They came to know from Aadhaar cards that the girl was 17 years old and the boy was 19 years 10 months old.
The team of the Akshata Cell counselled the parents of the boy and the girl and managed to change their mind. It also issued a legal notice from the police station. The parents of the boy and the girl assured the Nandurbar police that the marriage would be held only after the boy and the girl attain majority.
SP PR Patil said, “The Operation Akshata initiative, which is being implemented by Nandurbar district police is becoming successful through public awareness campaigns. A second child marriage has been prevented by the team of Akshata Samiti. Operation Akshata will be implemented in the district in an effective manner. This will help to eliminate the problem of child marriages which are rampant in the district.”
The action was taken under the guidance of SP PR Patil, Addl SP Nilesh Tambe, SDPO Sachin Hire, PI Kiran Kumar Khedkar of LCB by PI Rahul Pawar of Nandurbar taluka police station, API Naina Deore, Chief of the Askhata Samiti, PSI Suresh Sonwane, LCB PSI Anil Gosavi, policemen Deepak Gore, Vinayak Sonwane, Vijay Dhivre, Abhay Rajput, Aruna Mavchi, Child Security Officer Gautam Wagh and Megha Patil of Child Line.
