Fed up with exploitation of children from poor families at illegal madrasas in Pune, the Muslim community will organise a silent rally on August 3. They have demanded thorough action against racketeers who bring children from other states.

The march will begin at 3 pm from Babajan Dargah, go via MG Road and people will garland Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar statue and end the march at Pune police commissioner office.

A petition in this regard was submitted to the Pune police special branch on Monday by Iqbal Mehmood Ansari, Mushtaq Ahmad Shaikh, Ahmad Yunus Sayyed, and Aman Ullah Khan.

“In the name of orphanages, illegal Madrasas have been set up in Pune in 100 sq ft to 200 sq ft spaces. Children are literally bought from Bihar, UP, Bengal and Assam. They are kept in inhuman conditions and there has been sexual abuse of children also. There should be thorough probe against trafficking of children by agents and their exploitation by Maulanas in Madrasas”, the petition states.

It further added that there are about 60 to 65 such Madrasas in Pune. “There is urgent need of rescuing children stuck in such Madrasas. The agents buy the children and they are kept in one Madras for two to three years and then sold to other Madrasas. There is a Madrasa in Kondhwa for girls, which is also illegal. Therefore, strict action should be taken against those who have made Madrasa as business”, the letter states.
