Mumbai : You’ll be jailed if don’t quarantine after coming in contact with COVID19 patient

Mumbai : As the COVID19 situation worsens in Maharashtra and Mumbai, authorities have issued several guidelines to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, which can punish those who violate the rules of home quarantine and sealed buildings.

On Thursday, 736 fresh cases and three deaths due to COVID19 infection was recorded in Mumbai. This is the highest number of daily cases seen in the city since 6 January (795 new cases). Mumbai’s total caseload has increased to 316,487 while 11,432 people have died of the disease so far. The city has an active caseload of 4,782.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to register an FIR against those who break the rules of Home Quarantine and then send them for compulsory Institutional Quarantine under the Epidemiological Diseases Act, 1897. If the high-risk contacts of Covid-19 positive people are not quarantined, they may face a six-month imprisonment in Mumbai, or a fine of at least Rs 200.

The ministry stated that the number of under-trial cases in 31 states and union territories is less than 5000. The number of cases under treatment in Andaman and Nicobar Islands is four, while Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli have six. 79.69 percent of the cases under Covid-19 are from five states and union territories. The ministry said, two states Kerala and Maharashtra account for 69.41 percent of the total under-treatment cases in the country.
