Mumbai-Pune rail services resume

NPnews24 online, Pune/Mumbai: The Central Railway has resumed the Pune-Mumbai railway service two weeks. Due to heavy rains landslide and damage to the railway line, the rail traffic between the two cities was closed from August 4.

The Railway administration has started the service on Friday and will run about 40 trains from its scheduled time along with all intercity trains between Pune-Mumbai starting Saturday (August 17).
This has given comfort to the rail passengers who have been suffering from last two weeks.
Due to continuous rains, landslides and rock collapses were taking place in Karjat to Lonavla ghat section of the railway route. Hence at several places, the rail line was damaged. Therefore, the Railways had stopped the rail traffic between Pune and Mumbai for 14 days.

All the obstacles were removed by Thursday night.  On Friday, Pune-Mumbai-Pune Sinhagad Express, Pune-Mumbai Intercity Express, Pune-Mumbai Indrayani Express and Mumbai-Pune Deccan Queen trains resumed running between the two cities providing relief to passengers.

Meanwhile, all the rail traffic between Pune and Mumbai will be restored on Saturday. About 40 trains run between these cities, including Sinhagad, Indrayani, Intercity, Deccan Express and Deccan Queen.
Also, due to the flood situation is better in Kolhapur, the railway traffic between Mumbai-Kolhapur, including Mahalaxmi, Koyna and Sahyadri Express, have been restored. Similarly, the long distance trains that run through Pune-Mumbai have also been started, the Railway administration said on Friday.
