Mumbai High Court dismisses 89 petitions of TET exams; Jobs of over 25000 teachers in danger

Aurangabad : Teachers who failed the TET exam have received a huge setbackfrom the Aurangabad bench of the Mumbai High Court. The Aurangabad bench has dismissed 89 TET petitions, threatening the jobs of more than 25,000 teachers in the state. Teachers’ unions are now preparing to challenge the High Court’s decision in the Supreme Court.

The state government has made it mandatory to pass the TET exam, which is the minimum educational qualification required to become a teacher. The state government had given a deadline of March 31, 2019 to such teachers. Earlier, the state government had clarified that only teachers who have passed the TET examination can remain in the service. More than 25,000 teachers failed to pass the TET, the minimum educational qualification test, within the deadline set by the state government.

Some teachers had approached the high court in this regard. 89 different petitions were filed on behalf of these teachers. All these petitions have been disposed of by the Aurangabad bench. As a result, more than 25,000 teachers in the state who did not pass the TET exam have lost their jobs.

Teachers’ unions are now preparing to challenge the High Court’s decision in the Supreme Court. The DTAD and BEd Students’ Association, on the other hand, has demanded that these ineligible teachers be sacked without extension and that qualified teachers be given a chance. The state government has not yet announced its position on this.
