Mumbai diamond merchant claims to be CM’s Additional Chief Secretary, dupes five-star hotel

A diamond merchant from Mumbai has been arrested by the Crime Branch of Pune city police for allegedly duping Conrad Hotel on Mangaldas Road by impersonating as Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s additional chief secretary Pravin Pardeshi, who is currently the senior most officer in the Chief Minister’s Office.

The arrested accused has been identified as Aditya Ashok Jogani, a resident of Napean Sea road in Mumbai. In the past also he has been arrested for cheating people.

Based on complaint from the commercial director of the hotel, an FIR was registered with Koregaon Park police station on Saturday.

Accordingly, a team from the anti-dacoity cell of Crime Branch arrested him. Jogani was produced before a holiday magistrate court on Sunday, where he was remanded to police custody till October 10.

According to police, the incident took place between since January this year. The accused pretended to be ACS Pardeshi and claimed various VIP benefits during his stay. Jognai stayed at the hotel with Manav Shah, Geeta Shah and Navin Shah. He used to communicate with the hotel officials through email and had made them believe that he is very senior government officer and close to CM Fadnavis. The hotel officials extended various facilities. The fraud came to light when the accused didn’t pay bills of Rs 95,900 for hotel rooms, food and other services.

Police registered a cased of cheating (420), 170 (impersonating a public servant) under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The case was investigated under supervision of Additional Commissioner of Police (crime branch) Pradeep Deshpande, Deputy Commissioner of Police (crime) Shirish Sareshpande and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime-1) Sameer Shaikh.

The team was led by Anti-Dacoity Cell’s Police Inspector Rajendra Kadam, Assistant Inspector Laxman Dengale, Assistant Inspector VS Chavan.

Jogani is a famous businessman in Mumbai, who had earlier also cheated foreign diamond companies.
