MPSC examinations postponed in the view of rising number of COVID cases

Mumbai: Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) examination schedule to be held on March 14 has been postponed in view of rising Covid-19 cases in the state.

In wake of a surge in the cases of COVID-19, ‘Janta curfew’ will be imposed for three days in some areas of Maharashtra. The ‘Janta curfew’ will be in place from 8 pm on Thursday till 8 am on Monday.

Earlier, the pre-service state service examination on October 11, 2020 was postponed due to the aggressive stance taken by Maratha organizations on the Maratha reservation issue.

The MPSC recruitment examination was scheduled to be held on Sunday, March 14. The exam was to be conducted in two sessions. The first session was scheduled to start at 10.30 am. The candidates were asked to arrive at the exam centers at least three hours before the exam is scheduled to begin.

Amid the surge in COVID-19 cases in the state, Maharashtra ruling party, Shiv Sena in its editorial on Wednesday (March 10) warned the citizens, once again, of another lockdown.

Earlier on Tuesday, Mumbai Guardian Minister Aslam Shaikh said if COVID-19 cases continue to rise in the city, the possibility of a night curfew or partial lockdown cannot be ruled out. Mumbai has been showing a daily spike of over 1,000 cases for the last few days.

Today, amid rising COVID-19 cases, the authorities in Nagpur declared a complete lockdown in the city from March 15 to 21. Nagpur Guardian Minister Nitin Raut said during the period of the lockdown, only essential services like vegetable shops and milk booths will be allowed to remain open.

Maharashtra on Wednesday recorded 13,659 new coronavirus cases, the highest one-day spike this year, which took the state’s caseload to 22,52,057. With 54 fatalities, the death toll stood at 52,610.
