MH Govt. Unable to Save Jail Prisoners from Corona Infection! Temporary Parole will be Given to 17 Thousand Prisoners

Mumbai : After the Coronavirus positive cases surfaced in Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail, the government has now decided to grant temporary parole to selected prisoners in view of the increasing threat of Coronavirus in other jails as well. This temporary parole will be given to a total of 17 thousand prisoners in the state. State Home Minister Anil Deshmukh informed about this.

Anil Deshmukh said that 185 prisoners of Arthur Road Jail got Corona infection, who are undergoing treatment. He said that the state government has decided to give temporary parole to 17 thousand out of 35 thousand prisoners to prevent the infection of Coronavirus in other jails.

He said that the prisoners getting temporary parole are not those who committed serious crimes. Of the total 17 thousand such prisoners, there are 5 thousand under trial, 3 thousand with imprisonment up to 7 years and 9 thousand inmates who got punishment above 7 years. The government has also directed to provide social distancing to all jails.
