Meeting of Pune District Officials regarding Maratha Kranti Morcha

From last two years, the Maratha community has been fighting for their reservation rights. But, two months ago, this movement turned into a severe violence. The Maratha Kranti Thok Morcha took violent action at several places on August 9.

District Collector Nawal Kishore Ram is going to hold a meeting on September 18, to review the implementation of some schemes taken by the state government after the Maratha community’s agitation.

Representatives from various concerned departments and representatives from Bhartiya Maratha Mahasangh will be present in this meeting.

The issue of Maratha reservation has become critical in Maharashtra, after many silent Marches last year. It led to many suicides in the state.

After the March in Mumbai, the state government had implemented many schemes related to Maratha community representatives. Officials will check the status of these schemes taken by state government.

The schemes like Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj EBC Scheme to give 50% concession in education fee to the students belonging from economically weaker sections of society and provide the hostels of each district both for boys and girls under the Dr. Punjabbadra Deshmukh hostel scheme. This information will be collected from its respective departments.

Deputy Collector Jayashree Katare said that the hostel for 200 boy students and  50 girl students have been inaugurated at Aundh ITI. The online and offline application process is valid till September 21.

Under the Annasaheb Patil Financial Development Corporation, loans of up to Rs 10 lakhs will be made available to the youth of Maratha community to start their business.

As well as, guidance centers for Competitive Examinations and Fellowships will be started for the students of this community. The review of these schemes will be taken in the meeting.

Recently, there was a hearing in the Bombay High Court on the Maratha reservation on September 11. An important step has been made towards the Maratha Reservation, as Backward Classes Commission will submit its final report regarding Maratha community reservation, till November 15.
