On March 23 at 11.30 am, two unidentified persons had looted a trader’s employee of ₹47 lakh by threatening him with a sickle. An FIR is registered at the Samarth police station. An investigation had been started under the guidance of ACP Satish Govekar. Mangalpuri Bhikampuri Goswami (55), a resident of Mangalwar Peth, has lodged a complaint. Goswami has been working in Panna Agencies since 30 years. Every day, he deposits cash collected in the agency at the Bank of India’s Rasta Peth branch from 11 am to 12 noon. He had been robbed after threatening him with a sickle. The police examined footage of 500 CCTV cameras. The police realised that the accused had ran away to Gahunje village in Pimpri Chinchwad. When the police tried to find out from where the accused had come, they saw that an autorickshaw was moving about in a suspicious manner. By taking help of the footage, API Prasad Lonare and his team traced the autorickshaw and arrested the driver.

The names of Scooter rider Kishor Ashok Pawar and Akash Kapil Gorad, both residents of Bibvewadi became known to the police. Both are criminals on police records. The third person who was in the autorickshaw, was Rishikesh Gaikwad, a resident of Bibvewadi. The police arrested him.

After Rishikesh Gaikwad was questioned, he said that since 2019, he was working as a salesman in Panna Agency and selling cigarettes on behalf of Godfrey Phillips India Limited. He had been fired from his job in October 2022 because he had quarrelled with the owner. Since Gaikwad had worked in Panna Agency, he knew that every day, Goswami goes to the bank to deposit ₹20 to ₹25 lakh at a fixed time. Gaikwad prepared a plan with his friends Kiran Pawar and Aksh Gorad to commit a robbery. They carried out a recce of the Rasta Peth area and the Panna Agency area and had finalised a road sans any CCTV cameras from where they could escape.

Banks were closed on account of Gudhi Padwa on March 22. Hence, they decided to rob the amount collected in the agency for two days, on March 23. On March 23, at 9 am, the person carrying the cash was shown to Kiran Pawar and Akash Gorad and Rishikesh Gaikwad went home in an autorickshaw. He was in his house for the entire day.
Cash of ₹25 lakh and an Activa scooter have been seized from mastermind Rishikesh Gaikwad. The police have mounted a huge search operation to trace Kiran Ashok Pawar and Akash Kapil Gorad.
