Mansukh Hiran death case : Thane court rejects Sachin Vaze’s interim anticipatory bail plea

Mumbai : Mumbai crime branch’s Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Vaze’s interim anticipatory bail application was rejected by the Thane sessions court on Friday. Sachin Vaze has been facing heat in the death case of Mansukh Hiran.

The court will hear his regular anticipatory bail plea on March 19. A top official said on Friday that Sachin Vaze was transferred to the Citizen Facilitation Centre (CFC) unit of the city police. The Mumbai crime branch shunted out Vaze on Wednesday after Hiran’s wife accused him of involvement in her husband’s suspicious death.

A Scorpio was found near industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s house in south Mumbai with explosives and a threat letter inside on February 25. This SUV belonged to Hiran, who was found dead in a creek in Thane on March 5. Hiran had earlier claimed that his SUV was stolen a week earlier.

According to the claims of Hiran’s wife, her husband had given the SUV to Vaze in November. Vaze returned the SUV in the first week of February.

The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has recorded Vaze’s statement earlier this week. In his statement, Vaze has denied using the SUV.

Earlier in 2004, Vaze was suspended for the alleged custodial death of Khwaja Yunus. According to the PTI, he was reinstated in the service in June 2020 and was heading the CIU of Mumbai crime branch. He was probing several high-profile cases, including the TRP rigging scam, fake social media followers case among others.
