Man arrested for abusing traffic policewoman in Pune

A 32-year-old man was arrested on Monday for allegedly abusing and using sexually explicit words against a woman traffic cop in Mundhwa.

The arrested accused has been identified as Ravi Ashok Sartape, a resident of Kondhwa Khurd. The policewoman posted with Hadapsar traffic division has lodged the FIR against him with Mundhwa police station.

According to police, the incident took place between 11 am to 11.15 am at Mahatma Phule Chowk in Mundhwa. She was managing traffic along with other police personnel. “The accused came from Keshavnagar side (the wrong way) and stopped at the signal. I told him to move away from there as traffic from Mundhwa side was to start. He got enraged and asked me to get aside. He further said that his father is an officer so I should not tell him about traffic rules. I told him to park the vehicle on the roadside and call his father. I also informed my senior, PSI Mhetre, who was present on duty there and he asked another policeman to put a jammer on the vehicle and also asked the accused to call his father”, she stated in her complaint.

Police officials said that the accused parked his vehicle and started walking towards Mundhwa. Then, he started talking to a head constable. The woman cop told him about the case following which the accused abused her. When the head constable asked him to talk decently, the accused started shouting loudly that the cop was having affair with the policewoman. He also caught her hand but she resisted his molestation attempt.

After that he was caught by the policemen and taken to Mundhwa police station, where a case was registered against him for offences under sections 353 (obstructing a public servant from discharging official duty), 354A (sexual harassment), 504 (intentional insult), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Police said that accused is 12th pass. Now he is pursuing BBA through distance learning. He is unemployed.
