2 police officers of Mumbai police arrested for collecting money from angadias, senior police inspector absconding

Mumbai : NpNews24 OnlineMaharashtra Police |  Three police officers working in Lokmanya Tilak Marg police station in Mumbai threatened angadias of action by the income tax department and collected money from them and a case has been lodged in the same police station against them.

 

The accused have been identified as police inspector Om Wangate, API Nitin Kadam, PSI Samadhan Jamdade and other members of their team.

 

The CIU team has arrested Kadam and Jamdade and they have been remanded in police custody till February 21. This has created a flutter in the Mumbai police department.

 

The angadias carry out their business in cash and they have many offices in the Mumbadevi area. The Angadia Association had submitted a complaint to the police that some officers from the Lokmanya Tilak Marg police station don’t allow them to carry out their business and harass them on the pretext of inquiry. They take money from the angadias by threatening them that they will inform the IT department about their cash transactions.

 

Police Commissioner Hemant Nagrale had given instructions to probe the complaint. Addl CP Dilip Sawant questioned the angadias and PI Vangate, API Kadam and PSI Jamdade and other officials in the team.

 

The CCTV footage from the Pophalwadi area of Mumbadevi and surrounding areas, entries in the police diary and answers given by the police officials revealed that the officials collected money in an illegal manner.

 

As per Dilip Sawant’s complaint, a case was registered in the same police station where they are posted. Kadam and Jamdade were arrested and they have been remanded in police custody till February 21. Meanwhile, PI Om Wangate is absconding.
