Maharashtra Government approves to fill 12,500 Police Constable posts

Mumbai: The State government has approved to fill 12,528 posts of police constables, exempting them from the restrictions imposed by the Finance Department on Thursday (January 21). Out of these, 5,297 vacancies will be filled in the first phase and the order for the remaining posts will be issued separately.

Anil Deshmukh said, “Our government has kept its word to fill the posts of police constables in the state. Today’s order will help strengthen the police force”.

The Cpovid-19 induced lockdown had adversely affected the state’s financial resources. In that context, the Finance Department issued an order on May 4, 2020, restricting the filling of any new posts in any departments other than the Department of Public Health and Medical Education.

In terms of law and order, the Finance Department has clarified in its order on Thursday that 100 percent filling of police posts is being allowed. The cabinet meeting held on November 13, 2020, decided to relax the previous restrictions for filling 5,297 vacant posts of police constables in 2019 and 6,726 posts in 2020, 505 for Mira-Bhayander-Vasai-Virar Police Commissionerate, which is a total of 12,528 posts.

 Police recruitment was stalled due to Wardha-Maratha reservation issue. However, now the state government has decided to recruit police. In this connection, the process of recruitment for 5,000 posts in the first phase, including in the Naxal-affected areas, has started and recruitment will start soon, Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said on Thursday.
