Maharashtra : Balasaheb Thorat resigns as Congress state president

Mumbai: Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat, who is playing the role of cabinet minister and state president in the Maharashtra government, has resigned as the state Congress president. This information has been received from sources. At the same time, the party has started the exercise of the election of the new state president. Big names like Nana Patole, Nitin Raut, Amit Deshmukh are included in this list.

There is now a demand in the Congress party that such a leader should become the new state president who can handle the party’s work well. Earlier, Balasaheb Thorat took this command but due to getting additional charge, he could not do this work properly. There is no response from the party on this decision yet.

Thorat is handling many important positions
Balasaheb Thorat is the revenue minister in the Maharashtra government as well as the leader of the Congress legislature. According to sources, due to the additional burden, he has decided to resign from the post of Congress state president. Earlier, under the leadership of Balasaheb Thorat, the Congress had won 44 seats in the assembly elections. It is believed that due to Thorat’s efficient leadership, the Congress remains in power in Maharashtra today.

A coalition government was formed in the year 2019
Significantly, there is a Mahagavas Aghadi government of three parties in Maharashtra. These include NCP, Congress and Shiv Sena. In the year 2019, Shiv Sena and BJP contested the assembly elections together. In this election, out of the total 288 seats, Shiv Sena had 56 seats, while BJP had won the maximum 105 seats. The Shiv Sena joined hands with the Congress and NCP after differences between the two parties over the post of Chief Minister.
