Maharashtra: 12 kids given hand sanitizer instead of polio drop!

Mumbai : A surprising case has been reported from Yavatmal, Maharashtra. Here, health workers crossed the limit of negligence and gave 12 children hand sanitizer instead of polio drop. The children have been admitted to the hospital after their health deteriorated. The incident is said to be of Sunday. Pulse polio campaign was being conducted at Ghatanji Primary Health Center here on Sunday. During this time, the incident of giving hand sanitizer to 12 children came to light.

Actually, a national polio campaign was conducted in a gram panchayat of Yavatmal on Sunday morning. Here 12 children were given hand sanitizer drops instead of polio drops. After which these children complained of vomiting and health related complaints late night. They were admitted to the hospital when their health deteriorated. Giram Gedam, Yogashree Gedam, Harsh Meshram, Bhavana Arke, Vedanta Meshram, Radhika Meshram, Prachi Meshram, Mahi Meshram, Tanuj Gedam, Nisha Meshram, Aastha Meshram have been admitted to the hospital and are undergoing treatment.

Kishan Shamrao Gedam, the father of two victims sons, said that when his children were given a drop of polio, their children started vomiting. After this, when the health workers realized that they had given them hand sanitizer instead of polio drop, they again gave him polio drop. He said that we take great care of our children but this is the extent of negligence of the health workers.

According to preliminary information, a CHO, an Anganwadi worker and an Asha worker have been suspended and the matter is being investigated. Yavatmal Zilla Parishad CEO Dr. Srikrishna Panchal said that the culprits of the incident will be decided after the investigation of the case is completed. The health of hospitalized children is now stable.
