The RJD leader, admitted to the Asian Heart Institute of Mumbai, was discharged from hospital on Friday morning. After hearing the arguments of the CBI in High Court on Friday, the High Court had refused to extend Lalu’s bail period. Justice Apresh Kumar Singh asked the RJD chief to surrender by August 30 before the CBI court and directed the state government to provide medical care whenever needed. Lalu had filed a petition for extension of his bail on a medical basis for three months which has been rejected.

Standing in favour of Lalu, senior lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi requested an extension of provisional bail for three months for treatment of anal abscess, kidney stone and enlarged prostate glands.

Earlier, the court had extended Lalu’s preliminary bail for August 10 till August 20. Lalu Prasad Yadav, convicted in many scams including the cattle fodder scam, was serving a sentence in Ranchi jail when his health had worsened.

Earlier, he was treated at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi and then at the Asian Heart Institute in Mumbai. Lalu’s advocate Prabhat Kumar said that after the petition was rejected on behalf of the court, he will now go back to Mumbai’s Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences where he was first admitted.

At the same time, the Enforcement Directorate has filed charge sheet against Lalu and his family members in connection with the allocation of IRCTC’s hotels in the money laundering. This case is said to be the corruption by giving the management contracts of IRCTC’s two hotels to private companies.
