Khadakwasla dam water storage 50% full

NPnews24 Online Pune: The Khadakwasla dam was filled with 51.35 mm of water till 6 am on early Monday. The dam has a total water storage capacity of 1.97 TMC.

On Monday, 1 TMC of water accumulated in the dam making the storage fifty per cent full. Since June 1, the dam has received 365 mm rainfall in 38 days.

The reason for this is the heavy and continuous shower in Pune from the last few days. The heavy spell of rainfall could push the dam storage to its maximum capacity soon if it keeps raining heavily in Pune.
Earlier, it was recorded that collective storage of the four dams that supplied water to Pune had increased to a total of 4.91 TMC.

Last year on July 10, the storage had reached 51.99 per cent. Hence on July 15, 2018, the water was released from the canal. On July 16 last year, the whole dam storage was full. Out of this, 22,880 cusecs of water was released from the dam into the Mutha river.

The Khadakwasla Dam is 1.6 km long.  The dam has been built on the Mutha river.

The length of the Khadakwasla backwaters is nearly 22 km (14 mi) and the width varies from 250 to 1,000 m (820 to 3,280 ft). The maximum depth in the lake is 36 m (118 ft). The dam has 11 radial type sluice gates and six irrigation outlets, flowing into two canals.
