Kapoors Confirms the RK Studio for Sale

70 years old, iconic RK Studio and the pride of Kapoors is going to be sale as confirmed by Rishi Kapoor. As reported last year, RK Studio had gutted by fire and damaged the main shooting area and many other key facilities. Now the expenses to rebuilt is not economically viable.

Kapoors having the emotional attachment to the studio, which was founded by a senior member of family and veteran actor Raj Kapoor in 1948, the decision to put up the family studio for sale was taken by the family collectively.

Veteran Actor Rishi Kapoor had founded this studio before 70 years in Chembur. RK Studio has been known as the second of Kapoors which also has witnessed the golden period of Hindi Cinema. This studio is going to be the history now.  Rishi Kapoor and family took this decision after being aware of the fact that the renovation of the studio would still not generate enough revenue to keep it working.

Directors were also less preferring the place for shooting, which was leading the studio at loss. While Rishi Kapoor had earlier expressed a desire to rebuild the studio with “state-of-the-art technology”, his brother Randhir said it was not practical.”Yes, we have taken the decision to sell RK Studio. It is already up for sale. After the fire that broke at the studio it was not viable to build the studio again… It was not economically viable to do it again,” Randhir said.

The key-films made under the RK banner include “Aag”, “Barsaat”, “Awaara”, “Shri 420”, “Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai”, “Mera Naam Joker”, “Bobby”, “Satyam Shivam Sundaram”, “Ram Teri Ganga Maili” and many more.
