JD (U) will oppose triple talaq bill in Rajya Sabha

Npnews24 online Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s party and BJP ally Janata Dal (United) said it will not support the BJP-led NDA government at the centre on the issue of triple talaq in the Rajya Sabha.

“Janata Dal-United is opposed to it and we will continue to stand against it, “said senior party leader and Bihar minister Shayamm Razak.

Triple talaq is a social issue and should be resolved by the society at the social level. Early this week the Bihar Chief Minister reiterated his stand that proposals t remove Article 370, impose a Uniform Civil Code and construct a grand Ram temple in Ayodhya either be settled through dialogue or court ruling.

The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, which made the practice of Instant triple talaq (talaq-e-biddat) a penal offence, had faced objections from the opposition parties which claimed that jail term for a man for divorcing his wife was legally untenable.
