Jalgaon: Man arrested for using fake receipts in name of Ram Mandir trust to dupe people

Jalgaon: One person was arrested in Jalgaon’s Golani Market area on Thursday (February 18) afternoon for allegedly seeking donations using fake receipts in the name of Shri Ram Janambhoomi Teerth Kshetra, the government trust tasked with the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

The accused has been identified as Rajendra Bhaskarrao Sonwane (47), resident of Chalisgaon Ghat. Local police received a tip-off about the racket from Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad office bearers. A case was lodged with the city police in the evening on the complaint of Rakesh Kantilal Lohar.

A receipt book was prepared under the name of Saichaitanya Multipurpose Organization and Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Jalgaon. Receipts of Rs 400, Rs 50 and Rs 10 were torn from the receipt book which was seized. Bajrang Dal district conveners Rakesh Kantilal Lohar, Rajendra Devidas Nannavare and Devendra Durgadas Bhavsar and Vishwa Hindu Parishad office bearers rushed to the spot and questioned Rajendra Sonawane. After realizing that he was duping people in the name of construction of Ram temple, he was detained and brought directly to the city police station.

A donation drive is currently on wherein Sangh Parivar members have been drumming up support for funds through motorcycle rallies and begun door-to-door collection drives.
