Jaipur News | Lightning killed 11 tourists in Jaipur, PM Modi announced Rs 2L ex-gratia to kins

npnews24 –  Jaipur News | Eleven tourists lost their lives and another eight sustained injuries during a lightning strike near the Amer Fort.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each from PMNRF to the next of kin of those who lost their lives due to lightning in parts of Rajasthan.

The incident is from Sunday when these tourists were out enjoying a pleasant evening some were busy taking selfies while others chatting when they were struck down.

Around twenty-seven people were reported to have been on the watchtower and the fort wall when the incident happened.

Jaipur police Commissioner Anand Shrivastav confirmed the incident. “A total of 11 people have died as lightning struck them while 8 people have been injured,” Shrivastav said. A few of them slipped from the hills and fel, deep down among bushes.

SDRF teams have been rescuing them since last night and are searching for victims, said the disaster relief force officials. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each for the families of those killed.

Police sources said that many tourists sustained injuries as they jumped off the watchtower in panic.-

PM Modi also announced that Rs 50,000 would be provided to the injured, Modi said in his tweet.

As per reports, apart from tourists in Amer Fort, there are more deaths reported in the Rajastan. At least 22 people including 9 children died after they were struck by lightning. The number includes 11 deaths from Jaipur Amer Fort.

Apart from this, 3 deaths due to lightning were reported from different districts of Rajasthan, confirmed officials.

Earlier, in Garda village of Kanwas area of Kota district, 4 children, who had gone to graze cattle, died after lightning struck them. Three other children died due to lightning in Kudinna village of Dholpur district.

They too had gone to graze the goats. A young man died due to lightning in Daulatpur village of Sawai Madhopur.Apart from this, three more people died due to lightning at different places in the state. Chief Minster Ashok Gehlot has expressed condolences over these deaths. The state government has also announced compensation to the next of kin of the deceased.
