Three people had been arrested and Plunge – All Day Kitchen and Bar Pub owner Jitesh Mehta, a resident of Maharshi Nagar and MP-based bookie Akshay Tiwari were absconding. Since the police custody of the three accused ended today, they were produced in the court. Their police custody has been extended by four days. It has come to light that Jitesh Mehta is abroad. The police are searching for Jitesh Mehta and Akshay Tiwari.
The police had arrested Wasim Hanif Shaikh (39), a resident of Kondhwa Khurd, Ikrama Maqsud Mulla (26), a resident of Ghorpade Peth and Musabin Mehmood Bashaib (35), a resident of Somwar Peth. They were produced in the court and their police custody has been extended by four days.
An FIR has been registered against Koregaon Park-based pub owner Jitesh Mehta and MP-based big bookie Askshay Tiwari, a resident of Indore at the Kondhwa police station under sections 34 and 420 of the IPC, sections 4(A) and 5 of the Anti-Gambling Act and section 25 (C) of the Indian Telegraph Act. Police naik Shankar Shivaji Sampate (Buckle number 7812 of AEC-1, Pune) has lodged a complaint. The arrested accused have accepted bets via G-Pay and UPI ID. The police have got details of some of the transactions. The bookies have transferred money to accounts of some businessmen.
Many people were connected with the bookies and their links are now being exposed. The bookies have transferred ₹1 lakh to the account of a businessman and the police have got the details. The police are searching for Jitesh Mehta and Akshay Tiwari on a war footing.
Police Commissioner Retesh Kumaarr, Joint CP Sandeep Karnik, Addl CP Ramnath Pokale, DCP Amol Zende, ACP Satish Govekar guided a team of officials including Sr PI Ajay Waghmare, PSI Mohandas Jadhav, policemen Sudhir Ingle, Shankar Sampte, Pradeep Shitole, Vinod Salunkhe, Sadoba Bhojrao, Sangram Shingare, Chetan Shirolkar, Surendra Jagdale, Sachin Ahivale and others had exposed the racket.
