India’s First Electric Bus Service Will Run Between Pune-Mumbai

Pune: Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the electric bus service between Mumbai and Pune on Friday. It is the first electric bus service to run between the two cities. Prasanna Purple Mobility Solutions, which operates the bus, has said that 43 people can sit at a time in this luxury bus.

It is manufactured by Mitra Mobility Solution and it can go up to 300 km once charged. It will run twice on a daily basis. Prasanna Patwardhan, chairman and managing director of Prasanna Purple Mobility, said that it has about 1,300 electric buses and is looking to start service in Maharashtra and other adjoining states as well.

In the program organized on the occasion, Union Transport, Highways and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Minister Gadkari said that due to the efforts made in the last 4-5 years, a large number of electric buses are now running on the country’s highways.

He said that the state government’s transport corporations and private operators can order 10,000 electric buses this year.

The minister said, “We are also planning to construct the e- (electric) highway”.
