India Among Countries With Lowest Infection & Mortality From Coronavirus in the World : Dr Harsh Vardhan

New Delhi : Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan has said that India is one of the countries with the lowest infection and death rate with coronavirus in the world and the recovery rate of people infected with coronavirus is 63.45 percent while the death rate is 2.3 percent . Meanwhile, the number of people recovering from COVID-19 for the third consecutive day in the country reached a record high of 34,602 in a 24-hour period. The ministry said that the total number of healthy people has increased to 8,17,208. According to the latest data released at eight o’clock in the morning, the death rate due to infection has come down to 2.38 percent.

According to the data, the highest number of 49,310 cases of infections were reported in India in a single day and the number of infections increased to 12,87,945. At the same time the death toll has increased to 30,601 after 740 new cases of death due to infection. Meanwhile, according to the PTI table based on data received from the governments of various states and union territories, the total cases of infection are 13,13,925 cases while 30,919 patients have died.

Dr Harsh Vardhan, while addressing a digital meeting of health ministers of the countries involved in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), said that India has the lowest infection with coronavirus in the world, with 864 cases per million population and fewer than 21 patients dying. And is one of the countries with mortality. According to the statement, he emphasized how Indian traditional medicine has also contributed significantly in increasing the immunity of common people during the coronavirus epidemic.

He said that at present there is no institutional mechanism within the SCO to discuss cooperation in traditional medicine that has the potential to meet the World Health Organization (WHO) traditional medicine strategy 2014-2023. Harsh Vardhan also emphasized the effective implementation of the joint statement signed at the 2018 Qingdao Summit on cooperation in dealing with epidemics. He proposed the establishment of a new sub-group on traditional medicine under the existing institutional meetings of the Health Ministers of the SCO.

Harshvardhan expressed his condolences on the worldwide deaths due to the grip of COVID-19. Referring to India’s political commitment to control the epidemic, he said how Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally monitored the situation and ensured an active and gradual response to prevent the deadly virus from spreading. Harsh Vardhan discussed in detail the steps taken by the government to deal with the disease.

He said that action was taken in a systematic way to overcome the deadly virus which included issuing travel advisories, monitoring of entry points in the city or states, community based monitoring, increasing the capacity of laboratories and hospitals etc. He said that India also got the necessary time and opportunity to acquire technical knowledge, enhance the capacity of laboratories and infrastructure of hospitals during continuous lockdowns.

The ministry said that the number of people recovering from the infection has increased to 3,77,073 more than the number of patients undergoing treatment due to the steady increase in the number of people recovering. A total of 1,54,28,170 samples have been tested in the country till 23 July. 3,52,801 samples were tested on Thursday. The ministry said, “In this context, there are 11,179.83 investigations per million people in India and it is continuously increasing.”
