High end technology – Jacket that will charge your smart phone

NP NEWS 24 ONLINE – How many times does it happen that you are completely ready to go out but your phone is not fully charged so you wait back to charge it? But now there won’t be any problem. As now you will be able to charge your phone with your clothes. Thanks to scientists who are working on creating a pocket which acts as a charging dock.

The pocket will contain tiny solar panels woven into the fabric of your garments to charge smartphones, fitness trackers and tablets. Researchers at Nottingham Trent University say that the innovation would promote a sustainable way of generating power and lead to cutting carbon emissions.

The panels measure 3mm long and 1.5mm wide, which is small enough to be sewn into the fabric so people can charge while they’re on the go, without the need for power banks or plug sockets.

“It could do away with the need to plug items into sockets and reduce the demand on the grid while cutting carbon emissions,” co-author Dr. Tilak Dias told a newspaper. “The electrical power demand for smart e-textiles has always been its Achilles heel and this technology will allow people to use smart textiles while on the move.”

“Wash tests confirmed that the yarns could survive multiple machine wash and drying cycles without deterioration in performance,” they wrote in their study, published in the journal Scientific Reports. The researchers believe the prototype shows promise that e-textiles containing photodiodes could be very useful in today’s digital age.

“With the demonstration of a (photodiode)-embedded E-yarn using this technique, there is no doubt that the integration of various types of optical sensors inside of textile yarns is a viable proposition,” they wrote.

The team say that around 2,000 panels would be needed to charge a mobile phone or a fitness tracker, but so far, the concept model they have created has just 200. This proved powerful enough to charge a mobile phone and a Fitbit but they say if the 2,000 solar cells were incorporated it would generate enough power to charge a smartphone.
