Girl cheated in love marriage and pressurised to convert; Complainant harassed in USA, rescues herself with help of US police; Deccan police register FIR against six people
Pune : NpNews24 Online – Pune Crime News | A girl’s parents organised her marriage on a grand scale as their daughter was in love with a man. However, the boy’s parents accepted all gifts but demanded a package in a five-star hotel for the girl’s griha pravesh. The girl’s sister-in-law pressurised her to convert. Later, her husband called her to the US and started harassing her. The girl rescued herself with the help of the American police. After the girl returned to Pune, she lodged a complaint with the Deccan police. (Pune Crime News)
The Deccan police have registered an FIR against Arun Verma, Parvin Verma, Love Verma, Kush Verma, all residents of Kharghar and Vidhu Verma and Daniel. The incident took place at Kharghar in Navi Mumbai and the US from December 1, 2022 till now. A 33-year-old woman has lodged a complaint (43/23) with the Deccan police.
According to the police, the complainant was in love with Luv Verma. Later, it was decided with the permission of both families that an inter-religious wedding would be held. The engagement was held at Hotel Conrad on March 30, 2022. The complainant’s father spent ₹10 lakh on the ceremony. The girl’s relatives presented a silver idol of Lord Ganesh to the boy’s parents as a good omen. The boy’s sister’s husband Daniel did not like this and he argued with the girl’s parents. In December, the boy’ father told the girl’s parents to organise a destination wedding. The girl’s parents spent ₹75 lakh on the wedding. A sum of $50, 000 was given as dowry. Luv Verma had earlier borrowed money from the complainant on many occasions. Three necklaces of 5 tolas of gold were presented to the boy’s mother and his two sisters. During the wedding, Luv Verma’s twin brother Kush was telling everybody that the complainant was his half wife.
Luv Verma’s sister’s husband told the complainant that she should embrace Christianity when the marriage rituals were being conducted. When the complainant refused, he went away. Since the wedding was held at Alibaug, the bride was sent to Luv Verma’s grandmother. Luv also stayed with his grandmother for two days. The complainant’s mother-in-law demanded a honeymoon package in a five star hotel in Goa and said that only after this demand is fulfilled, the complainant would be allowed to enter their house. Later, they asked her to open a joint account in a bank for her wedding ornaments. After the account was opened, she was allowed to enter the house. Later, her sister-in-law and her husband tried to assault her. The complainant was being tortured. After her husband started abusing her, she went to her parents’ house. Later, her husband went to the US. Her husband threatened her that he would break her legs if she came to the US and told her that the marriage was over.
The complainant had lodged a complaint with the Koregaon Park police after her brother-in-law misbehaved with her during the engagement ceremony. Her husband told her to withdraw the complaint. He told her to come to the US and give another chance to revive their marriage. The complainant believed her husband and went to the US. Her husband started harassing her. Her husband told to withdraw the complaint against her husband and stopped giving her food. He did not keep essential things in the house. She was told to purchase a new television and was tortured.
The complainant, who was fed up, informed the American police by dialling 911. The police arrested her husband and he has been released on bail. The complainant’s father went to the US and brought his daughter to Pune. After they returned to Pune, they lodged a complaint at the Deccan police station. The police have registered an FIR against six people.
