Girish Bapat declared BJP candidate for Pune Lok Sabha seat

New Delhi : NPnews24 – March 23, 2019 : In a late night development, the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) declared second list of candidates for the Lok Sabha seats.

In Pune, MLA and minister Girish Bapat has replaced sitting MP Anil Shirole as party candidate for the Pune Lok Sabha seat.

Union Minister JP Nadda said, “We have come out with list of 36 new candidates which includes Odisha BJP President Basant Panda, senior leader Suresh Pujari & our spokesperson Sambit Patra. We would like to clear the 1st & 2nd phase candidates as soon as possible & we’re working on it.”

Girish Bapat (68) is the Cabinet Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection, Food and Drugs Administration, Parliamentary Affairs in Government of Maharashtra & Member of 13th Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. He represented consecutive 5 Terms from Kasba Peth Constituency in 1995, 1999, 2004, 2009, 2014.

Bapat was Born in a Maharashtrian Family. He has been a long time member of Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS). In 1978 during emergency he was arrested and sent to jail. He was appointed as Secretary BJP Pune City in 1980. He got elected in Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) by-election in 1983 and won 3 terms. He was also appointed as Standing Committee Chairman of Pune Municipal Corporation.

He was elected as Member of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly in 1995 fir the first time.
