Funding of Three Trusts, Including Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, Will be Investigated, Home Ministry Constitutes Committee

New Delhi : The Union Home Ministry has taken a big decision amidst the constant questions about funding in Rajiv Gandhi Foundation. A committee has been formed by the Ministry of Home Affairs, which will investigate the funding of these foundations, violations committed by them. This committee will be headed by Simanchal Das, Special Director (Enforcement Directorate).

On Wednesday, information was given by a spokesperson of the Union Home Ministry. The tweet said, “The Union Home Ministry has constituted an inter-ministerial committee, which will investigate the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust and Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust.

In this investigation, violation of the rules of PMLA Act, Income Tax Act, FCRA Act will be investigated. The committee will be headed by the Special Director of ED.

What is the whole controversy?
In the midst of the ongoing dispute between India and China, when the Congress Party launched an attack on the central government, the Bharatiya Janata Party attacked the Congress. It was alleged on behalf of Bharatiya Janata Party President JP Nadda that the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation used to get funding from China.

Apart from this, the UPA government had given money to the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for the country. BJP had alleged that till 2005-08 Rajiv Gandhi Foundation had received this amount from the PMNRF.
