Pune River Rejuvenation Project is hogwash, says former Congress MLA Mohan Joshi

Pune : NpNews24 Online The Vice President of the state Congress and former MLA Mohan Joshi, has criticised the BJP saying the party has remembered the River Rejuvenation Project since the civic elections are round the corner and it is making a show of the work to be done of the project.

He said former minister Prakash Javadekar, MP Girish Bapat, Mayor Murlidhar Mohol should be given an award for being the most incompetent representatives of the people.

The mayor has announced that the work under the project will begin soon since the approval has been given by JICA and the Centre. This is hogwash because the Centre had given approval for the project seven years ago. The BJP had organised a felicitation ceremony of MP Anil Shirole by environment minister Prakash Javadekar.

The environment ministry was being handled by Javadekar. However, only felicitation ceremonies were held and Shirole, Javadekar, Bapat and BJP’s office-bearers could not ensure implementation of the project. Since the tendering process could not be completed by January 31, 2021, there was a possibility that the funds sanctioned by the Centre could have gone back to the centre, Bapat had said. They were unconcerned for seven years and now since the elections are near, they got a letter of approval from the Centre.

This project should have been completed by now. They want to hide their inefficiency and show that they are implementing the project and get a pat on their back. This is being done by Bapat and other BJP leaders. The BJP has also proved unsuccessful in implementing the smart city project. Hence, they should be given an award for being inefficient representatives of people, Joshi said in a press release.

The cost of the project has increased by Rs 550 crores because of inefficient administration of the BJP. Of the expenditure of Rs 1, 473 crores, the Centre is going to provide Rs 842 crores. The remaining amount of Rs 550 crores will have to be paid by Puneites. The BJP which is responsible for this, will be taken to task by Puneites, Joshi said in the release.
