Driver cheats retired wing commander of ₹40 lakh

The Hinjewadi police have registered an FIR against Karan Bhausaheb Patil (26), a resident of Narhe. Amitava Arunkumar Pal, a resident of Viman Nagar, has lodged a complaint (594/23) at the Hinjewadi police station. The incident took place from July 1, 2017 to April 28, 2023.

According to the police, the complainant’s father Retired Wing Commander Arunkumar Pal was staying alone in Shinde Nagar. He was used to staying alone.

 

From August 2017, a driver Karan Patil, was working for him. Since he had won Pal’s trust, he used to look after his financial affairs also. Her father had given his ATM card and cheque book to him. Pal had made his will. A care taker, Sudhir Marki, had been appointed to look after him. Pal had been seriously injured after a fall in the bathroom. He had received injuries on his head and Karan used to tell the complainant that he was sleeping or gone to the bathroom. Since his father was very ill, he was admitted to Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital in Chinchwad and he passed away on April 25, 2023.

 

On April 28, Karan Patil gave ₹6 lakh to the complainant by telling him that is father had asked him to do so. When the complainant questioned him, Karan went away. After the complainant checked his father’s three bank accounts, he found that Karan had withdrawn huge amounts of money from the account on a regular basis. In last six years, Karan had misappropriated ₹39.87 lakh. It has also been found that Karan has taken away his father’s car, gold ornaments, original documents of the flat and the key of the locker containing his father’s will. The Hinjewadi police are probing the case.
