Dr Puja Khedkar case: Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital, Dean in trouble

Pimpri: The Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital (YCMH) and its Dean Dr Rajendra Wable are in trouble in the former probationary IAS officer Dr Puja Khedkar case.
A report on the disability certificate issued to Khedkar submitted by Dr Rajendra Wable has been rejected by the Commissionerate for Persons with Disabilities, Maharashtra State, Pune.
Moreover, it has asked the Principal Secretary (Medical Education) and other departments concerned to launch an independent probe against the PCMC’s YCMH and its Dean Dr Wable. This was revealed by State Disability Commissioner Pravin Puri.
The YCMH had issued the disability certificate about a 7-pc disability in her left knee. The commissionerate raised questions about the certificate and issued a directive to probe it. Now, the commissioner has ordered an investigation into the issue.
Puri has raised doubts as to how a person, who issued the certificate, himself filed a probe report on it. It has also questioned the MRI report, based on which the disability was decided. Thus, it has rejected the report prepared by Dr Wable by writing a letter to the department concerned on August 27.
Relief from arrest for Khedkar
The Delhi High Court has again provided relief to Puja Khedkar. It has extended the interim bail granted to her against arrest till September 5 in the cheating case lodged against her by the UPSC. The Delhi Police booked her under relevant sections of the IPC, the IT Act and under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act. The UPSC barred Khedkar from appearing for any of its exams in the future and cancelled her candidature in the Civil Services Exam on July 31.
On Wednesday, Khedkar claimed in the High Court that the UPSC did not have the power to act against her after her selection. Only the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) can act against her. She filed a four-page reply and rejected the allegations levelled against her by the UPSC and the Delhi Police. She claimed that she neither changed her name nor her surname nor made any changes to her name nor provided any false details to the UPSC between 2012 and 2022.
