Dr Kafeel Khan Arrested Under NSA Released From Mathura Jail After High Court Orders

New Delhi : Dr. Kafeel Khan has been released from Mathura jail. The Allahabad High Court ordered the release of Dr. Kafeel immediately. He was released from jail late on Tuesday night. After his release from jail, Kafeel thanked the court.

Dr. Kafeel Khan, who was associated with Gorakhpur BRD Medical College, was arrested by the UP Police for allegedly making inflammatory speeches during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), NRC and NPA.

On Tuesday, the Allahabad High Court had termed unlawful detention of Dr. Kafeel and extension of his term under the NSA. The High Court while giving the order said that it is illegal under the NSA to take Dr. Kafeel into custody and extend the period of detention. Kafeel Khan should be released immediately.

The Allahabad High Court said in its order that Kafeel Khan’s speech was against the government’s policies. His statement was not intended to promote hatred or violence but was a message of national unity and integrity. While giving the verdict, the High Court said that Dr. Kafeel Khan should be released immediately.
