Difficult to Return Home for Tourists from Maharashtra in Kullu-Manal

Monsoon being the season of travelers, many people choose hill-stations as their travel destination. Kullu-Manali is one of the most preferable traveling spots for people around the world. Hill-station brings the trouble of land sliding with adventures.

A landslip along the Himachal area of Kullu-Manali in the wee hours of Friday, August 24. It prompted district and highway authorities to temporarily shut traffic along the route of Mandi-Manali as a precautionary measure.

Four of the tourists includes Pune’s residents, and other 12 includes the residents of other parts of Maharashtra. Land sliding started to occur around 9 pm which gradually created the huge scene in the area.

Navaz Shaikh of Mumbai said, “We were supposed to take a flight from Chandigarh to reach our home-town Kashmir. It was our last destination of 15 day’s journey. For that, we all, a group of 12 people were going to take a flight from Chandigarh. The place where we have stuck is not having many facilities, it is in between big mountains where suddenly rockfall started. We are stuck here for the last 10 hours.”

Thousands of tourists have stuck on Jaipur-Agra National Highway as the rock fell because of the heavy rains in the area. This incident took place around 9 pm on August 24. The landslide had led to the loss of connectivity to nearby districts and villages which added trouble In critical situation.

Mohan Deshpande, a tourist from Maharashtra said, “A village named Bajora is situated at the distance of 25 Kilometre (KM) from Kullu-Manali. I had come to visit Kullu and I was on my journey to return and left from Manali on Friday. When around seven in the morning of Saturday, I reached here, the roads were blocked. The road clearing work was impossible to start in the dark of Friday’s night, it started in the morning. The road clearing work at both sides of the route has been started on war-footing. Police officials have been deployed and ambulances have also been called for an emergency.”

Long queues of vehicles at Jaipur-Agra National Highway led to a traffic jam. Long-route buses were also delayed. Work on clearing the road is being undertaken on war-footing, there is no official update on when the route will be opened for vehicular traffic. Debris clearing work is going on in the area using bulldozers.

Such incidents keep on witnessing at Kullu-Manali, on last 17 of August, Kullu-Manali national highway had remained blocked for over two hours following a landslide near the Ramshila area.

Commuters between Kullu and Manali said there were a lot of risky points where no caution signboards had been put up. A localized said that the road should be four-laned to ease congestion.
