Devendra Fadnavis writes to CM Uddhav Thackeray on the questions of ST employees

Mumbai: Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Devendra Fadnavis has written a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on the issue of ST workers in the state. In a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Devendra Fadnavis has demanded immediate attention to issues like troubles of ST workers, immediate cessation of their exploitation, wages of last three months, future problems due to labor cuts, uncertainty in their lives.

In a photo of the letter posted on Twitter, Fadnavis said the staff of the state highway transport service is currently going through so much difficulties. All these employees and their families are facing many financial crises. They received a partial salary for a few months from 3 to 4 months. June’s salary has not been given yet. ST Corporation employees have not yet received 25 per cent salary for March, 50 per cent salary for May and 100 per cent salary for June. Therefore, many employees’ situations have worsened and they are forced to sell vegetables for a living.

The families of millions of ST employees are currently living in a very unstable mentality. On the one hand there is no salary and on the other hand uncertainty of their jobs are bothering them. Of the farmer family members in the drought-hit areas who were given jobs in ST services in 2019, 500 of them have been released from their duties. They have been told not to return to service until further notice. Apart from this, there is a plan to force employees above 50 years of age to retire. It is even more unfortunate that no organization has been taken into confidence before doing so.
