Devendra Fadnavis | We will give tit-for-tat reply to the police, says Devendra Fadnavis
Pune : NpNews24 Online – Devendra Fadnavis | BJP leader and Union Minister Smriti Irani was present as the chief guest at a programme in Balgandharva Rangmandir. There was chaos during the programme. Activists of Congress and NCP showed black flags and raised slogans. When Irani’s convoy was going back, there were attempts to throw eggs on the vehicles. The BJP has become aggressive and former CM Devendra Fadnavis condemned the incident in strong words and has targeted the state police.
On Monday, a programme of inauguration of a book on Home Minister Amit Shah was going to be held at Balgandharva Rangmandir and Smriti Irani reached the auditorium. Women activists of NCP started raising slogans on the inflation. The activists of the BJP also became aggressive. The police apprehended NCP activist Vaishali Nagwade and five women activists. The NCP has alleged that the women activists were beaten up.
City Congress Chief Ramesh Bagwe led the agitation on the hike in LPG prices in the Balgandharva Rangmandir auditorium premises. Before the programme at the auditorium, Irani attended a programme in a hotel on SB Road and NCP city unit chief Prashant Jagtap demanded that the minister should first speak on the inflation.
The police have arrested NCP leader Vishakha Gaikwad for the attack on Irani’s vehicle. A youth has also been arrested and both are being questioned.
After the attack on Irani’s vehicle, former CM Fadnavis has sent a warning signal. “Every day, you are taking law in your hands and are indulging in illegal activities. If activists of the ruling party indulge in such acts, it is clear that there is no law and order in the state,” he added.
“The attack on Smriti Irani is condemnable. We can also give a tit-for-tat reply. But we believe in democracy and are giving an opportunity to the police. If the police fail to take appropriate action, then we will give a befitting reply,’’ Fadnavis said.
