Devendra Fadnavis | Puneites need more water, says DCM Devendra Fadnavis
Nagpur : NpNews24 Online – Devendra Fadnavis | The winter session of the state is currently going on in Nagpur. The government is talking about various development works. Also, the opposition is trying to trap the government on various issues. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has commented on the water consumption in Pune. In the Vidhan Bhavan, he said that the Puneites utilise more water as per the given parameters.
Fadnavis said Puneites use more water than the standards set by the Maharashtra Water Resources Regulatory Authority (MWRRA) and the Central Public Health Board.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) needs over 20 TMC of water per year from the Khadakwasla Dam project. Still, the PMC has sought from the Water Resources Department that the irrigation water to the newly incorporated 34 villages in the Khadakwasla project be made available to the municipality. In this background, the Deputy Chief Minister was replying to a starred question asked by MLAs Madhuri Misal, Sanjay Jagtap and others.
Fadnavis said, “The Pune Municipal Corporation is using more water than the standards given by the Water Resources Regulatory Authority and the Central Public Health Board.” Accordingly, he said that the Municipal Corporation is being penalized by the WRRA.
He also spoke on the issue of canal repair which was asked by MLA Rahul Kul. He said the canals and dams coming under the Khadakwasla dam chain project have not deteriorated. These canals are regularly inspected and repaired. And based on that water is given for irrigation from the canal. The old Mutha Right Canal is 160 years old while the New Mutha Right Canal is 60 years old.
Renovation and lining of these canals is necessary and people’s representatives have demanded these works. Accordingly, the budget for the Old Mutha Right Canal and New Mutha Right Canal and its distribution system and one of the embankment repair works has been submitted to the Regional Office. The work of preparing budget for the remaining works is also underway at the zonal level. Fadnavis also said that all these works are proposed according to the availability of funds after approving these works.
