Dahi Handi with Special Child

Entire Maharashtra is celebrating Krishna Janmashtami and Dahi Handi with utmost zeal and enthusiasm. Gopals around the lanes are gathering to celebrate this great tradition of Dahi Handi in which a human pyramid is made to break a Handi tied at a certain height with the help of rope along with garlands.  But in Pune, such festival was celebrated in unique and motivation way where a city-based nongovernment organization (NGO).

In Pune, this tradition is followed in every part of the city. But to give the joy of this Dahi Handi to the Special child Shagir Hinge Lokkala Prabhoni has come up with dedicated Dahi Handi just for them.

A special Dahi Handi was arranged for the special child and visually impaired children on Sunday afternoon. Such event was organized in the memory of Late Prachi Prakash Kale by Shagir Hinge Lok-Kala Prabhoni. This Dahi Handi was named with the theme of “Apli Dahi Handi” (Our Dahi Handi), which was celebrated in Kasba Peth.  Indrayani Gavaskar, Member of Eklavya Baal Shikshan Sanstha was awarded in this programme.

Visually impaired children of Sharda Hostel, Katraj and Girls of Eklavya Baal Shikshan Sanstha did the tradition of breaking the Handi. At this time New Gandharva Band performed to motivate the kids. In the form of help, a food supply of a month was provided to the children of the organization as Gopalakala.

Shahir Hemantraje Mavale, said, “ The Dahihandi is arranged every year by the Academy to bring special children to the mainstream of society and also give them the joy to celebrate the festival.”

Also, the women who work for neglected children are honored by the Academy with Yashoda Mata Sanam. This honor is organized to encourage women working in social institutions.

Social workers Renu Gavaskar, Kirtankar Taratai Deshpande, Parvati Chavan, Shahir Hemantraje Mavale, Sangita Mavale,  Rupali Mavale-Deshpande, Honraj Mavale, Arun Kumar, Bahubalgaonkar, Suresh Tarigatti and others were present on the occasion.
